The Tech Use Disorders (TUD) project belongs to an Intra-European Fellowship (FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IEF; ID 627999). With the growing use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in our societies, the aim of the project is to elucidate how far the development of problem use can be conceptualized within the framework of addictive behaviours in adults. Our aims are to shed some light on the prevalence of deregulated ICT use, to develop and validate new screening tools, and to better understand the psychosocial risk factors involved.<\/p>\n
The research project comprises two stages. First, a large-scale cross-cultural comparison of problematic ICT use and its correlates in 11 European countries (Italy, United Kingdom, Hungary, Spain, Switzerland, France, Finland, Poland, Norway and Germany; coordinated in Belgium). Second, laboratory studies have been conducted to compare potential problematic with non-problematic ICT users with regards to specific psychological mechanisms (e.g., cognitive functions).<\/p>\n
