The Laboratory for Experimental Psychopathology (LEP) explores the cognitive, affective, motivational, and interpersonal mechanisms that drive the development and persistence of psychological disorders, with a primary focus on anxiety, mood, and addiction disorders. LEP aims to advance both psychological and biological interventions targeting these processes, such as executive control, perfectionism, and rumination.
The lab adopts a transdiagnostic approach to psychopathology, exploring psychological processes common to various disorders and their roles in triggering these conditions. For instance, LEP examines the influence of executive control on adolescent binge drinking. The lab also investigates the neurobiological underpinnings of these processes, including neural activity and inflammatory responses.
LEP’s research is grounded in diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives, integrating insights from cognitive and affective neuroscience, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, and cognitive, social, and behavioral psychology.
